Alphabet Stock Analysis: Strong AI Cloud Acceleration and Heavy CapEx
Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG, GOOGL) delivered an exceptional second-quarter 2026 performance, highlighting its 12th consecutive quarter of double-digit revenue growth. Strong momentum in Google Search, YouTube, and an accelerating Google Cloud business helped drive operating income higher, while a massive gain on equity investments pushed net income to record levels.

Q2 2026 Performance
Alphabet reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of $119.8 billion, up 24% year-over-year. Total cost of revenues was $45.9 billion, up 18%. Total operating expenses were up 27% to $33.1 billion. As a result, the company delivered operating income of $40.8 billion (up 30% YoY), with operating margin widening to 34%. Net income soared 298% to $112.1 billion ($9.11 diluted EPS). Investors should note that net income was significantly amplified by $98.0 billion in net unrealized gains on equity securities within Other Income & Expense (OI&E), contributing $6.26 per share to diluted EPS.
AI Powers Growth Across Segments
Google Services: Alphabet's core Google Services business generated $94.5 billion in revenue, an increase of 15% from a year ago.
Search remained the largest contributor, with Google Search & Other advertising revenue rising 17% to $63.3 billion, demonstrating that AI-powered enhancements continue to improve user engagement and advertising performance. YouTube advertising also delivered another strong quarter, growing 13% to $11.1 billion, supported by robust demand during the 2026 FIFA World Cup and continued strength in direct-response advertising.
Subscription businesses also remained healthy. Revenue from Subscriptions, Platforms, and Devices increased 15% to $12.9 billion, fueled by growth in both YouTube subscriptions, particularly YouTube Music and Premium, and Google One, which was driven by demand for AI plans.
Google Cloud: The biggest surprise of the quarter came from Google Cloud segment. Revenue surged 82% year-over-year to $24.8 billion. Growth was driven by increasing enterprise adoption of Google Cloud Platform, enterprise AI solutions, AI infrastructure, and the first meaningful revenue contribution from Google's TPU system sales.
Cloud profitability also improved dramatically. Operating income climbed to $8.8 billion, more than tripling from last year, while operating margin expanded to 35.6%, compared with 20.7% a year earlier.
Even more encouraging was the continued growth in customer commitments. Google Cloud backlog increased by more than $50 billion during the quarter to reach $514 billion, providing strong long-term revenue visibility as enterprise AI adoption continues to accelerate.
Other Bets: In Other Bets, revenues were $382 million, and operating loss was $1.8 billion as the company continues to expand Waymo's business and invest in key other bets.
Massive AI Investment Pressures Free Cash Flow
Alphabet continues to aggressively expand its AI infrastructure. Capital expenditures reached $44.9 billion during the quarter, with approximately 60% invested in servers and 40% allocated to data centers and networking equipment.
As a result, free cash flow turned negative at -$5.9 billion during Q2 despite generating $39.1 billion in operating cash flow.
Alphabet raised its full-year 2026 capital expenditure guidance to $195–205 billion, up from the previous $180–190 billion range, and expects spending to increase significantly in 2027.
Management acknowledged that this aggressive expansion will create pressure on near-term margins and free cash flow through higher depreciation, energy costs and the temporary use of third-party cloud capacity while internal infrastructure continues to scale.
Despite those costs, Alphabet's AI ecosystem continues to expand rapidly. Gemini Enterprise is now used by nearly 90% of Fortune 100 companies. Gemini models process 22 billion API tokens every minute, and the Gemini application has reached 950 million monthly active users.
Balance Sheet Remains Strong
Alphabet ended the quarter with approximately $242.5 billion in cash and marketable securities while carrying $98.2 billion in long-term debt.
During the quarter, the company also completed a $49.6 billion equity raise to help finance future AI infrastructure expansion and issued $20.3 billion of senior unsecured notes.
Meanwhile, the board declared a quarterly common stock dividend of $0.22 per share, reflecting continued confidence in Alphabet's long-term financial strength.
GOOG Stock Technical Analysis
From a technical perspective, Alphabet stock is testing a critical juncture at the $347 resistance level. This is the near-term decision point. If buyers can reclaim and hold above $347, the path opens toward the next significant resistance at $371, which would represent a breakout from the current consolidation range.
However, if buyers fail to push the stock above $347, the stock may retreat to test support at $300. Should selling pressure increase further, the next major support zone lies between $280 and $256, an area that could attract longer-term investors if the broader uptrend remains intact.
