ORCL Stock Analysis: Oracle's AI Boom Meets Cash-Flow Reality

Oracle Corporation (NYSE: ORCL) delivered a blockbuster Q1 FY27 financial report, driven by massive demand for artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure. However, despite robust revenue and margin expansion, heavy capital expenditure continues to weigh on short-term free cash flow.

AI Cloud Expansion Drives Oracle’s Growth

Oracle reported total revenue of $19.3 billion for the first quarter of fiscal 2027, up 30% year over year. Cloud revenue, which includes Cloud Infrastructure (IaaS) and Cloud Applications (SaaS), increased 62% to $11.6 billion. The most significant growth came from IaaS revenue, which surged 121%, while SaaS revenue increased 10%.

The strong cloud performance was supported by Oracle’s continued expansion of its data center capacity. The company delivered 850MW of additional data center capacity during the quarter.

Oracle’s traditional software business continued to face pressure as customers migrate from on-premises software to cloud-based services. Software revenue declined 3% to $5.5 billion. Services revenue rose 5% to $1.4 billion, while hardware revenue increased 15% to $0.8 billion.

Profitability also improved significantly. Oracle generated $6.7 billion in GAAP operating income, representing a 57% year-over-year increase, while non-GAAP operating income rose 31% to $8.2 billion. The GAAP operating margin expanded to 35% from 29% a year earlier, while the non-GAAP operating margin remained at 42%.

GAAP net income available to common shareholders reached $4.7 billion, up 60% from the prior-year period. Non-GAAP net income increased 34% to $5.8 billion. GAAP earnings per share rose 55% to $1.56, while non-GAAP EPS increased 30% to $1.92.

The company booked more than $30 billion of additional AI cloud contracts during the first quarter, increasing its remaining performance obligations to $664 billion. Oracle also delivered more than 300,000 GPUs to AI cloud customers since the end of the fourth quarter, nearly tripling the capacity delivered in Q4 FY2026.

Record Operating Cash Flow Comes With Heavy Capital Spending

Oracle’s cash generation was particularly strong during the quarter. Operating cash flow reached a record $23.1 billion, an increase of 184% from a year earlier. However, free cash flow was negative $5.4 billion because of the company’s aggressive investment in cloud infrastructure. Capital expenditures climbed 235% to $28.5 billion, demonstrating the enormous amount of capital required to expand Oracle’s AI and cloud infrastructure capacity.

The balance sheet reflects the significant financing requirements associated with this expansion. Oracle ended the quarter with $36.4 billion in cash and cash equivalents and $125.3 billion in total debt. At the same time, the company completed a $20 billion common-stock sale through its at-the-market equity program during the quarter as part of its previously announced capital investment program.

The Board of Directors declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.50 per share, payable October 23, 2026, to stockholders of record as of October 9, 2026.

Q2 and Full FY27 Outlook

For Q2 FY27, Oracle guided total revenue growth of 30–34% in both USD and constant currency, with total cloud revenue growth of 65–71% in USD and 64–70% in constant currency. Non-GAAP EPS is expected at $1.85–$1.93 in USD, representing growth of 21–25% in USD. However, that growth rate excludes a one-time net investment gain from the sale of Oracle's interest in Ampere that boosted Q2 FY26 results. Including that gain, Q2 FY27 non-GAAP EPS is expected to decline between -18% and -14% in USD.

For the full fiscal year 2027, Oracle now expects total revenue of at least $90 billion and non-GAAP EPS of $8.10.

ORCL Stock Technical Analysis

From a stock-price perspective, ORCL is currently facing a key resistance level at $167. If the stock can break above and sustain a position above $167, the next major resistance level to watch is $186.

However, failure to remain above the $167 resistance area could increase the risk of a pullback. In that scenario, investors may look toward $114 as the next major support level. If selling pressure becomes stronger and $114 fails to hold, the stock could potentially move toward further support around $100.
