Marvell Technology: AI Momentum Accelerates Q2 FY27 Results and Upward Guidance
Marvell Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRVL) reported record-breaking second-quarter fiscal 2027 results, underscoring its pivotal position in data center infrastructure and artificial intelligence hardware. Driven by surging demand across optical DSPs and custom silicon programs, Marvell comfortably beat top-line guidance and raised its long-term financial outlook, signaling sustained momentum into fiscal 2028.

Fundamental Strength: Record Q2 FY27
The company reported record second-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue of $2.739 billion, representing a 37% year-over-year increase and a 13% sequential increase. The result came in $39 million above the midpoint of management’s previous guidance, highlighting the strength of demand in the data center end market.
Profitability is improving as well. GAAP gross margin increased to 53.1%, compared with 50.4% a year earlier, while GAAP operating margin improved to 16.8% from 14.5%. Non-GAAP gross margin was 58.9%, dipping 50 basis points from last year. But non-GAAP operating margin expanded 180 basis points year over year, demonstrating meaningful operating leverage.
GAAP net income was $308 million, or $0.33 per diluted share, while non-GAAP net income reached $865.9 million, or $0.94 per diluted share.
Cash generation remains solid, although operating cash flow was affected by higher supplier capacity prepayments to support future growth. Marvell generated $605.5 million in operating cash flow during the quarter and returned $254 million to shareholders, including $200 million through share repurchases. The company ended the quarter with $3.933 billion in cash and cash equivalents against $4.963 billion of total debt.
Data Center Expansion
The most important part of the results was the continued acceleration of the data center business. Revenue from the segment reached a record $2.172 billion, up 46% year over year and 18% sequentially. From 800G optical DSPs scaling out to 1.6T technology ramping rapidly — the demands are strong.
Marvell also reported that scale-out switching is on track to more than double during fiscal 2027, supported by broadening array of 51.2T customers. At the same time, the company expanded commercial agreement with Tier 1 hyperscaler for broad range of custom silicon programs, including attach programs associated with the TPU ecosystem. Custom silicon could become an increasingly important source of growth. Management now expects the custom business to grow more than 2x year over year in fiscal 2028.
Communications Business Remains a Near-Term Weakness
Q2 communications and other revenue was $568 million, up 10% year-over-year but down 3% sequentially. Q3 revenue is expected to decline in the low-to-mid-teens q/q and y/y on a percentage basis. Management expects a solid sequential revenue recovery in Q4, with FY27 y/y growth to approach 10% target.
Marvell Raises Its Growth Expectations
Full-Year Upgrades: Marvell now expects fiscal 2027 revenue to grow approximately 45% to about $12 billion, compared with its previous outlook of $11.5 billion. Data center revenue is expected to grow approximately 60% year over year, up from the previous expectation of roughly 50%. The outlook becomes even more aggressive for fiscal 2028. Marvell expects revenue to increase approximately 50% year over year to about $18 billion, around $1.5 billion above its previous outlook.
Q3 FY27 Outlook: Expected net revenue of $3.150 billion (+/- 5%), with non-GAAP diluted EPS projected at $1.10 (+/- $0.05). GAAP gross margin is expected to be 52.9% to 53.9%, with non-GAAP gross margin projected to be 57.5% to 58.5%. Q3 Data Center revenue is forecasted to grow over 20% sequentially and approximately 75% year-over-year.
MRVL Stock Technical Analysis
At the current stage, $238 is the key resistance level to watch. If MRVL can establish itself firmly above $238, the next potential target is $266. A sustained move above $266 would strengthen the bullish setup and put $299 into focus as the next major upside target.
On the other hand, failure to break or hold above the $238 resistance area could lead to a pullback. Initial downside support rests at $178. Should selling pressure intensify below $178, the secondary lower support level sits at $165.
